Navigation, iPhone and Communication - First Version

As an old IT nerd, it’s obvious I can’t leave things stock.

CarPlay

So the first thing I needed was a CarPlay-capable display. Using the iPhone itself as the navigator wasn’t what I wanted.

Since the display only needs to do CarPlay and I didn’t want an alternative motorcycle control panel, it didn’t have to be an expensive device like the Carpuride. It did, however, need to fit the BMW cradle and be controllable via the Wonder Wheel.

It ended up being the Carabc DB601 .

The device sits perfectly in the BMW cradle on the Wunderlich bracket.

iPhone

In the meantime, the iPhone has made it onto the handlebars after all. At first I always kept it in the tank bag, plugged in, but that was far too cumbersome when I briefly needed it to take a photo or when the navigation needed attention.

So I fitted a Quadlock mount with a vibration dampener and wireless charging.

Power comes from the USB socket on the right side of the cockpit.

Communication

For communication, my helmet has a Sena SRL3 built in. There’s also a remote control on the Molle pad of the tank bag.

The SRL3 is paired with the iPhone. Pairing it with the BMW isn’t necessary.

The insta360 AcePro2 was paired as an additional phone so I could also record through the SRL. But quite a bit has changed on that front since.
